Man in Vienna had 1350 euros of counterfeit money on him

A young man was caught with 1350 euros in counterfeit money at Vienna Central Station on Wednesday afternoon. The 26-year-old wanted to pay with a fake 50 euro bill in the supermarket there. But the cashier was not fooled.

The cashier thought the bill looked strange and checked it mechanically. When she realized that the fifty was wrong, she alerted the police.

The officers eventually seized a total of 1350 euros in counterfeit money from the 26-year-old. The man from Guinea was provisionally arrested and then released.

Money received for "cleaning work"
He denies knowing that it was counterfeit money. He had received the money for cleaning work. The Vienna Regional Criminal Police Office, Southern Branch, is conducting further investigations.
