Women’s downhill in Kvitfjell – LIVE from 10.30 am

After the disappointing home World Championships in Saalbach, Conny Hütter presented herself from her best side on Friday: Austria's speed figurehead raced to victory in the downhill in Kvitfjell in commanding style and thus remains fully in the race for the crystal globe.

"After the World Championships, I was a bit down and shed a lot of tears," said Hütter in an ORF interview before the race. In Kvitfjell, she showed the perfect reaction after the "reset": with a strong and risky run, the Styrian made the competition look old.

"It was at the limit. I hit certain passages really well. The middle section wasn't what I had hoped for. But on the whole it was really good," said a beaming Hütter at the finish. The "naturalness at the start" was back. In Kvitfjell near Lillehammer, she had already finished on the Super-G podium twice before (1st/2023, 2nd/2024).

Behind Hütter, Germany's Emma Aicher (+0.15 seconds) and US World Champion Breezy Johnson finished second and third.

Puchner and Venier beaten
Runner-up Mirjam Puchner (+1.02) fell behind early on with a mistake in the gliding turns in the upper section and missed out on a single-digit result.

Stephanie Venier (+1.88) was apparently not quite fit. The Super-G World Champion had skipped the final training run the day before due to angina symptoms.

Title defense in the Downhill World Cup?
Defending champion Hütter remains fully in the race for the Downhill crystal globe and is making up numerous points on Federica Brignone, who finished fifth. The Italian is now only 26 points ahead of the ÖSV lady. Compatriot Sofia Goggia, fourth in the Kvitfjell downhill, is 24 points behind Brignone in second place. Another downhill is planned for Saturday (10.30/live in the sportkrone.at ticker), after which there are two more races (La Thuile, Sun Valley) in this discipline on the calendar.
