Young Bulls reach round of 16 after a tour de force

Salzburg are through to the last 16 of the Youth League! The young bulls defeated the Scottish representative Celtic in their home academy in the round of 32 after a penalty shoot-out with 5:3. The next opponent is still to be determined, the round of 16 will be played at the beginning of March.  

The young bulls pushed the pace right from the start at the RB Academy and created several good chances in the first half. However, neither Murillo, Trummer nor top scorer Verhounig were able to convert the opportunities into goals. The visitors from Scotland relied on transitional moments, but were not compelling. However, they threw themselves into everything at the back and the score remained 0-0 at half-time.

After the changeover, Joker Moser put Salzburg into the lead (56'). But Celtic equalized around ten minutes later with a free-kick from Ure. Coach Beichler's team went on the offensive, but nothing more than a shot off the crossbar from Aguilar came out of it and it remained 1:1.

Salzburg goalkeeper Zawieschitzky shone in the shoot-out, saving the first penalty kick from Cummings. As Celtic's Bonnar shot over the crossbar and all the young Bulls held their nerve - Aguilar converted the decisive penalty - the home side were able to celebrate promotion.
