Vincent Kriechmayr has made an impressive return in his racing suit. Austria's speed hope for the home World Ski Championships landed in second place (+0.65 sec.) behind the US American Ryan Cochran-Siegle in the first downhill training on Wednesday in Saalbach-Hinterglemm with a braking turn before the finish line, with Stefan Babinsky (+0.95) in third, who recommended himself in the fight for a starting place. Defending champion Marco Odermatt from Switzerland came fifth (+1.05).

Kriechmayr had suffered a pulled inner ligament in his right knee in a fall in Wengen two and a half weeks ago. He explained that it went very well when he was skiing, with the adrenaline he was able to cope with it and with an aggressive ride it could be hidden. "Now I have a bit of a problem, but that's normal after the strain, not so tragic," he said after the ride in the finish area - and before the therapy. The knee is taped and of course he can't do without painkillers, reported the Upper Austrian.

Babinsky already set an example
Babinsky showed himself ready for the internal qualification in the second downhill training on Thursday. "It was a good run, I tried to do my thing and concentrate on my skiing. There is still a lot of room for improvement in some passages." Daniel Hemetsberger was 1.82 seconds behind, Otmar Striedinger 2.08, Raphael Haaser 2.35 and Stefan Eichberger 2.51.

"I'll have a look at where I lost the time," said Hemetsberger. Striedinger is preparing for the quali. "I've set it up today so that I'm not really going full throttle yet, I still have passages where I wasn't on the line yet."
