Boeing abruptly plummets 300 meters: 6 injured

Dangerous incident on a United Airlines plane on its way from Lagos (Nigeria) to Washington D.C.: The Boeing Dreamliner suddenly plummeted 300 meters into the air - throwing objects through the air. According to CNN, six people were injured. 

In a video recorded by a passenger on board the aircraft of flight UA613 on Friday, chaos can be seen in the passenger cabin: Trays, food and other items are strewn across the floor of the plane.

Descent happened after food was served
One passenger reported: "We had already been served our meals 
when the plane lost altitude and started to descend. We noticed a steep descent. The impact caused me to hit my head on the ceiling. The steep descent was repeated three times, injuring several people."

After the sudden loss of altitude, the plane turned around and landed back in Lagos, where the six injured people, including two flight attendants, were taken to a nearby hospital, United Airlines said. They have since been discharged from hospital. 

It is unclear what caused the breakdown. The airline stated that it was not severe turbulence and that it was "working with aviation authorities in the US and Nigeria to determine the cause".

According to United, there were 245 passengers, eight flight attendants and three pilots on board the flight. The passengers ultimately had to be accommodated in hotels.
