German (67) dies in Tyrol after skiing accident

Sad news from the hospital in Innsbruck! On Thursday afternoon, a skier (67) went off the piste on the Stubai Glacier and had a serious fall. The German eventually died from his serious injuries. 

On Thursday shortly after 3.30 pm, an initially unknown skier fell on ski route no. 26 on the Stubai Glacier through his own fault and slid over the edge. "As a result, the winter sports enthusiast fell over steeply sloping terrain and hit the lower section of the serpentine ski route, where he remained unconscious," according to the police.

Witnesses to the accident immediately began first aid and made an emergency call. "The man was treated by the ski slope rescue team and then flown by rescue helicopter to Innsbruck Hospital, where he died in the evening," said the police.

Identity had to be clarified
The identity of the man was subsequently clarified by the police. The skier was a 67-year-old German. "A post-mortem examination carried out on Friday did not reveal any evidence of third-party negligence," the investigators emphasize.
