Wöginger re-elected ÖVP parliamentary group chairman

At its meeting on Tuesday, the ÖVP parliamentary group unanimously re-elected August Wöginger as its chairman. The 50-year-old Upper Austrian takes over from former Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer. 

Wöginger has already been acting club chairman since the ÖVP club was constituted for the current legislative period.

"A parliamentarian with heart and soul"
He expressed his thanks for the great trust placed in him. He is a parliamentarian with "heart and soul", said the club chairman, who has already been a member of the National Council for 22 years.

Nehammer makes way for Mühlviertel MP
Karl Nehammer's federal mandate goes to Claudia Plakolm, Johanna Jachs from Freistadt takes his place and will be sworn in again on Wednesday. Jachs was already a member of the National Council from November 9, 2017 to October 23, 2024.

Johanna Jachs, born on October 16, 1991 in Freistadt, is a lawyer. She has been President of the Austrian Family Federation since November 2023, a member of the Freistadt municipal council since 2015, a member of the Freistadt ÖVP municipal party executive since 2016 and a member of the federal executive of the Junge ÖVP (JVP) since 2017.
