Otto Schenk will be buried in a grave of honor at Vienna's Central Cemetery on 30 January. The day before, on January 29, Schenk will be laid to rest in St. Stephen's Cathedral from 1 pm.

A funeral service with cathedral priest Toni Faber will take place from 3 pm. Corresponding information was confirmed by the cathedral parish on Monday.

"No traditional mourning clothes"
Otto Schenk's son Konstantin Schenk announced on social media that there would be a funeral procession from Gate 2 of the central cemetery to the grave of honor at 2 pm on 30 January.

He added: "In Otti's spirit, please do not wear traditional mourning attire."

Schenk died on January 9 at the age of 94 at his home on Lake Irrsee. He spent more than 75 years on stage as an actor and made a name for himself as a theater and opera director far beyond Austria's borders.

He will also be remembered as the director of the Theater in der Josefstadt, which he ran from 1988 to 1997.
