Bitcoin hits record high ahead of Trump’s inauguration

Bitcoin has risen to a record high on the day of Donald Trump's inauguration as US president. On Monday morning, the oldest and best-known cryptocurrency climbed to 109,356 US dollars (106,191 euros) on the Bitstamp trading platform, leaving the old record from mid-December behind.

Bitcoin has gained almost 60 percent since Trump's election in November. The future US president had promised to loosen the regulations for cryptocurrencies. He has also spoken out in favor of a national Bitcoin reserve for the USA.

Stuttgart Stock Exchange anticipates an increase in crypto trading
The Stuttgart Stock Exchange also expects a high demand for cryptocurrencies under Trump. "The new US administration is very crypto-friendly," Matthias Voelkel, CEO of Börse Stuttgart Group, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

"This and the new regulation within the European Union for the trading and custody of cryptocurrencies should ensure that the market is further fueled and that there is lively trading."

There are currently 30 to 40 million customers in Europe who own Bitcoin and other corresponding currencies. By the end of the decade, there should be 100 to 150 million people, depending on the study, explained the manager of what is the sixth-largest exchange group in Europe.
