Landestheater must clear out its treasures

Making room in the new year! This is the motto of the Salzburg State Theater. The costume collection is therefore being cleared out. Around 2000 items of clothing are looking for a new owner at the big costume sale on February 1 in the Aigen rehearsal center.

"We start at a price of one euro. These are small masks, for example. Costume pieces are available from just two euros," explains the head of costume at the Salzburg State Theatre, Sven Jungclaus. In addition to the colorful outfits from past productions, there are also other bargains.

Roller skates and helmets from the musical "Xanadu" can be found on the counter! This is because the classic musical was performed on roller skates in the Salzburg Ice Arena last season. The shoes were only worn for a few performances.

The timing of this year's sale is deliberate: Carnival fans in particular can get their money's worth there. Elaborately crafted dragon or lion costumes, for example, are waiting for their second big appearance at a carnival parade or carnival party.

"It's just far too bad to throw all these treasures away. That's why we will try to hold a costume sale every two years in future," says costume manager Sven Jungclaus.

But celebrity hunters will also get their money's worth: for example, the costume of musical star Lukas Perman from "The Sound Of Music" can be purchased on February 1 from nine o'clock.
