Up to 100 km/h: squalls sweep across Austria

Caution is advised from Thursday afternoon in several regions of Austria. The approaching cold front is really something special and will bring gale-force gusts of up to 100 km/h with it. There is even a red warning level in four federal states!

Strong foehn winds are already making themselves felt in the south-east of the country throughout the day. It can get windy in North Tyrol and Vorarlberg in particular.

Attention in the east
According to the severe weather center, stormy westerly winds will freshen up in the west and north towards the evening, which will then spread to the entire Danube region during the night - and thus also affect the federal capital Vienna, among other places.

There are warnings of "heavy squalls", in exposed locations even "hurricane-like gusts" in some places. The weather service has therefore issued a red warning for four federal states - Lower Austria, Styria, Burgenland and Vienna.

Take precautions to avoid damage
Loose objects should therefore be secured in advance, especially on terraces, balconies and in gardens, and further precautions should be taken to avoid possible damage. As always, caution is also required outdoors, as there is a risk of falling branches or loose roof components.
