Homeless man stabs friend in anger

In the Weinviertel region, an Afghan attacked his 33-year-old friend with a broken glass bottle. The man suffered serious injuries to his back and the investigation is ongoing.

An argument between two men in Laa an der Thaya in the northern Weinviertel ended in bloodshed for one of them on 4 January: during an argument with an acquaintance (without permanent residence), a 33-year-old man from the Mistelbach district received several stab wounds to his back.

The two had clashed in the early hours of the morning in the victim's apartment, whereupon the 27-year-old Afghan attacked the man from Weinviertel several times with a broken glass bottle. The 33-year-old was seriously injured in the attack and had to be flown to hospital by emergency helicopter, but is out of danger.

The perpetrator fled after the brutal attack, but was caught by the police near the scene of the crime in the course of a manhunt that was immediately launched. The background and motive are still unclear. The 27-year-old is in custody and has partially confessed to the attempted murder charges.
