Abused and threatened by husband for years

On Monday afternoon, a woman (41) and her two children were freed by the police from the locked bedroom in her apartment on Vienna's Handelskai. She is said to have been physically abused by her husband (50) for many years.

The police were alerted by attentive neighbors at around 11.30 a.m. after they heard loud cries for help coming from the apartment. When the officers arrived, the suspect was still trying to escape.

Several injuries
However, he was arrested without further ado. Behind the locked bedroom door, the officers then found the completely terrified woman with her two children.

When questioned, she stated that her daughter's father had threatened to kill her. He is also said to have threatened her daughter, who wanted to come to her mother's aid, with consequences.

The 41-year-old victim suffered several injuries to her head, neck and back. The children were unharmed.

No trespassing and approach ban
The 50-year-old suspect was banned from entering the premises, banned from approaching the victim and provisionally banned from carrying weapons.
He was provisionally arrested and charged on suspicion of assault, dangerous threats, coercion and the continued use of violence over several years. He is currently in prison.
