Wanted bank robber called the police himself

At the beginning of November, a masked man tried to rob a bank branch in Villach-Völkendorf - unsuccessfully. Now the 21-year-old called the police himself and handed himself in. 

"A masked man wearing white gloves tried to rob a bank branch in Villach-Völkendorf at around midday on November 8. He was probably wearing a dummy bomb under his clothes", reported the police on November 9th and searched for the bank robber. After apparently too much time had passed, the perpetrator fled without any loot.

The criminal then contacted the police on his own. On Christmas Day, the 21-year-old Syrian citizen living in Villach called the Carinthian State Criminal Police Office and finally handed himself in.

 "The 21-year-old was questioned about the facts of the case and fully confessed," the police reported: "The young man also stated that he could no longer withstand the constant pressure, which came from his environment, among other things."

The "bomb belt" in question was recovered as a dummy. The 21-year-old gave massive financial difficulties and debts to acquaintances as the motive for the crime. He was taken to Klagenfurt prison.
