Snowfall leads to first traffic accidents

Every year, the first snow on the roads leads to accidents and calls for police, fire and rescue services. On Monday night, some cars skidded due to the wintry driving conditions.

The Wernberg fire department was alerted shortly after 9 pm on the fourth Sunday in Advent: Two cars had been involved in an accident on the wintry Köstenberger Straße in Wernberg, with one car sliding over the embankment.

"The car was pulled back onto the road by our fire engine using a tow rope. The Wernberg fire department was deployed with two vehicles and around 20 members," said incident commander Peter Reichmann.

Accident after evasive maneuver
Also on Sunday evening, the car of a 21-year-old driver from the district of Völkermarkt skidded after an evasive maneuver in Velden and left the road. His two passengers, 18 and 21 years old, were injured in the accident and had to be taken to Villach Regional Hospital by ambulance. The car sustained serious material damage.

The man stated that he had swerved because of two vehicles parked on the road.
