Elon Musk sees AfD as the “salvation of Germany”

A few weeks before the German parliamentary elections, US tech billionaire Elon Musk has recommended the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the best party for Germany.

"Only the AfD can save Germany," the advisor to US President-elect Donald Trump posted on his short messaging service X (formerly Twitter; see post below) on Friday.

The Tesla boss's post is linked to a video by YouTuber Naomi Seibt, who accuses the candidate for chancellor of the conservative CDU/CSU, Friedrich Merz, of refusing to engage in talks with the AfD.

"Danger to democratic institutions"
 The German constitutional service classifies parts of the AfD as right-wing extremist. Critics accuse the party of pursuing a right-wing populist, xenophobic course. They also regard the AfD as a "threat to democratic institutions".

A year ago, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony classified the AfD regional association there as definitely right-wing extremist. This means that the party is considered far-right in three federal states - in addition to Saxony, in Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
