Salzburgers give high-proof gifts for Christmas

Christmas business in Salzburg is booming this year. The Europark shopping center, for example, is reporting the highest influx of visitors ever around the festive season. This year, a particularly large number of people are buying high-proof spirits as Christmas presents.

"Food retailers in particular have already benefited from high demand at the start of Advent. High-quality products such as expensive wines, sparkling wine and champagne were particularly in demand," says the shopping center.

Sales in other sectors, such as the book trade, the textile trade and the technology sector, were encouragingly stable compared to the previous year. Retailers in some sectors want to provide additional incentives with early seasonal sales. Some fashion retailers are already stocking up on spring fashion.

The in-house "tenner vouchers" also remain in high demand as Christmas gifts. They are the best-selling Christmas gift at Europark. 

"This bodes well for the shopping days after Christmas, as the days between the holidays are some of the busiest in the year. Many customers redeem their vouchers after Christmas to take advantage of the additional sales offers," says Europark boss Manuel Mayer.
