City manager’s company car now “replaces” bus route

Because the bus timetables in the Krems region have simply been changed, there are problems transporting children from Egelsee to the kindergartens in Stein - the "escort service" provided by childminders has been disrupted. The mayor found an unbureaucratic (interim) solution.

The escort service for kindergarten children from the Egelsee district has a decades-long tradition in Krems. During the week, childminders take the bus to Egelsee every day and accompany the little ones on the bus to the kindergartens in Stein. At lunchtime, the tour works in the opposite direction using the same system.

Buses were canceled without warning
With the latest timetable change, however, two bus connections on this route were suddenly canceled. "With the new timetable, the childminders would have to wait 40 minutes in Egelsee in the morning and would not be able to get back on time at lunchtime either," says Mayor Peter Molnar, explaining the problem.

Discussions are currently underway with the bus operator with a view to changing the timetable again. Alternative solutions are also being examined.

However, there is now an unbureaucratic interim solution: The city manager's company car takes the childcare workers to Egelsee in the morning and picks them up there again at lunchtime. The other two journeys are made by bus with the kindergarten children. A new bus solution is to be found in the new year.
