Bicycle protected victim from brutal knife attack

In broad daylight, a 25-year-old man attacked an opponent (29) with a knife in the Volksgarten in Linz. He was only able to protect himself by holding a bicycle in front of his body. The attacker has now been sentenced for his brutal attack.

It was a wild scene that took place in the Volksgarten in Linz in September: A Somali man (25) attacked a 29-year-old Upper Austrian man with a 40-centimeter-long knife. "That was really violent. That's how a woman from Linz (65), who was an eyewitness, described the incident to the "Krone" newspaper.

The 25-year-old allegedly tried three times to stab his victim in the head and upper body from top to bottom with the knife. The 29-year-old was able to protect himself by holding a bicycle in front of his body, which resulted in a cut to his index finger.

A total of 30 months in prison
On Tuesday, the unconfessed attacker stood before the provincial court in Linz: the 25-year-old received an additional sentence of 23 months for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, on top of the seven months he had already served for another assault. The sentence is already final.
