At last! The Koralm Railway will be rolling in exactly one year

On December 15, 2025, the time has come: ÖBB will change its timetables and the Koralm Railway will go into operation for the general public. There is still some work to be done before then.

Exactly one year from tomorrow, on December 15, 2025, a new era of mobility will dawn in Carinthia and Styria: The Koralm Railway will connect Graz and Klagenfurt within 45 minutes. 80 passenger trains per day will whizz along the line at speeds of up to 230 km/h, including through the Koralm tunnel. Construction will take 27 years.

Training and test runs
The construction was actually officially completed two weeks ago. Work is currently underway to make the stations fit for operation, such as the new Weststeiermark station in Groß St. Florian. The Koralmbahn will be connected to the rest of the ÖBB world in the first quarter of 2025, when the prescribed test runs and training for train drivers, technicians and emergency services will begin.

Freight traffic will then start in the last quarter of 2025, before the railroad is inaugurated on December 14 and opened to regular traffic on the 15th.
