Car on fire in garage: four residential buildings evacuated

A fire alarm sounded late on Friday afternoon in Telfs, Tyrol (Innsbruck-Land district): A car caught fire in the underground garage of an apartment building. The thick smoke spread so massively that four residential buildings ultimately had to be evacuated. Around 100 people were affected - fortunately no one was injured.

At around 5 pm, the car, which was parked in the garage of an apartment building in Telfs, suddenly caught fire. The alerted fire department was quickly on the scene - the situation on site was dangerous. "The smoke spread massively in the four residential buildings there, which is why it was necessary to evacuate the approximately 100 people living there," reported the police. 

Garage fire brought under control
The fire was finally brought under control by the emergency services with the help of heavy breathing apparatus. The houses and apartments were then ventilated by the fire department. 

Cause of fire probably a technical defect
According to the police, fortunately no one was injured. The exact cause of the fire is still the subject of further investigations. "However, it is highly likely that the cause was a technical defect," concluded the investigators.
