Israel attacks border crossings with Lebanon

The Israeli military attacked two border crossings between Lebanon and Syria on Friday night.

The shells hit Syrian soil shortly after the border. An Israeli army spokesman reported an attack on weapons transfer points and infrastructure near the border.

The border crossings in question were Arida in the north and Jousieh in the east of Lebanon. Both are important access points for the Syrian province of Homs.

Islamist rebels are preparing to advance south towards Homs following their lightning offensive in north-western Syria.

Supply routes for the radical Hezbollah militia in Lebanon also run through Syria. In the fight against Hezbollah, Israel is therefore repeatedly attacking targets in Syria from the air.
