Driver inattentive, Zillertalbahn hits car

All the stop signs don't help: time and again, collisions occur at unrestricted crossings of the Zillertalbahn, and on Tuesday it happened in Zell.

At 2.15 pm, the 43-year-old Belgian driver was driving his car in Zell am Ziller coming from Zeller Straße in the direction of the municipal road, crossed the level crossing at Unterdorf and overlooked the Zillertalbahn train heading towards Mayrhofen.

Train driver still warned
The 38-year-old train driver tried unsuccessfully to alert the driver of the car to the approaching train by pressing the horn, but a collision still occurred.

Driver suffers shock
While all the passengers on the train and the driver were uninjured, the Belgian driver suffered a shock and was taken to Schwaz District Hospital for further medical clarification. The car was considerably damaged. No damage was found on the train and the journey towards Mayrhofen could therefore be continued.
