Vienna U1 back in normal service today

Public transport users will be pleased: Following the fire in Vienna's U1 subway line, the line is now back in normal service. The fire occurred in the middle of a special train with six carriages - without passengers - at the beginning of last week.

"As of now, the U1 line is back in continuous service for you between Leopoldau and Oberlaa. We thank you for your patience and wish you a safe journey," Wiener Linien told APA on Friday morning.

Since then, there had been limited service. The subway was only in operation between Oberlaa and Reumannplatz and between Schwedenplatz and Leopoldau. The stations Keplerplatz to Stephansplatz were not maintained.

U2 will soon be running to Karlsplatz again
There is also good news for all public transport riders regarding the U2: from December 6, it will run to Karlsplatz again. A test run with city councillor Peter Hanke will take place on Friday.
