Senior citizen threatened with toy gun outside a bank

An 83-year-old man from Salzburg was threatened by an armed perpetrator outside a bank in Itzling. However, the senior citizen realized that the gun was a toy and bravely defended himself. The attacker, a 25-year-old, was arrested by the police shortly afterwards.

On Wednesday morning, an 83-year-old man was robbed in front of a bank in the Itzling district of Salzburg. The perpetrator threatened the pensioner with a gun and demanded money. But the incident took an unexpected turn: The senior citizen realized that the weapon was a toy gun and tried to snatch it from the attacker, the police reported in a press release.

Although this attempt failed, the 83-year-old's resistance prompted the perpetrator to abandon his plan and flee. The police were quickly alerted and were able to arrest a suspicious person near the scene of the crime. The suspect is a 25-year-old man from Salzburg.

The young man partially confessed to the police. He admitted to having caused the incident, but denied having a robbery motive. By order of the public prosecutor's office, the suspect was transferred to Salzburg prison.
