Hiker falls 50 meters over rock face – dead

Tragic alpine accident on Tuesday afternoon in the Tyrolean lowlands: after a 71-year-old local man failed to return home from a hike, his son-in-law raised the alarm with the police. The man's body was discovered in a stream bed during a large-scale search operation. He had probably fallen.

The 71-year-old Tyrolean wanted to hike to a chapel in Brandenberg (Kufstein district) in the afternoon. When he was still not home in the evening, his son-in-law went looking for him. "He was able to find the missing man's car at the starting point. He then informed the police," according to the police.

Body found by drone
A major search operation was launched. A short time later, there was sad certainty. "With the help of a drone from the Kufstein district fire brigade association, the man could only be found lying dead in a stream bed below a red-marked mountain path at the foot of a vertical rock face around 50 meters high," the investigators continued.

More than 50 emergency services
The body was recovered and transported away. The Kramsach mountain rescue team, the Brandenberg volunteer fire department, the FLIR helicopter of the Salzburg police, several police patrols and the drones of the district fire brigade association were deployed. All in all, more than 50 emergency services were involved in the search operation.
