Column of smoke over Alterlaa residential complex – one injured

According to the emergency services, three people may have been slightly injured in the fire. The source of the fire was on the sixth floor.(Bild: privat)

A huge column of smoke rose from an apartment in the Alterlaa residential complex on Wednesday. Numerous emergency services were on site and the flames had already been extinguished. Three people were injured.

The fire is said to have broken out shortly before 1pm in Vienna-Liesing. The emergency services initially assumed that one person was injured, but three people have since been confirmed with slight smoke inhalation.

Source of the fire on the sixth floor
According to Gerald Schimpf, spokesman for the Vienna professional fire department, one resident of the affected apartment was able to get to safety in time. The fire broke out in an apartment on the sixth floor of one of the residential towers.

Fire now under control
The flames also spread to the balcony of the apartment, but smoked up the corridor of the apartment building. As a result, other residents were initially prevented from escaping. Fortunately, the firefighters were able to get the people to safety in time.

The professional fire department had the fire under control at around 1.45 pm. Footage shows a huge column of smoke rising into the sky from the balcony of the affected apartment.

The Alterlaa residential and retail park is one of the largest residential complexes in Austria and forms a city within the city of Vienna with a complete infrastructure.
