Big day for volunteers

This was the "National Volunteer Day"! 15,000 visitors flocked to the volunteer fair in the government district of St. Pölten yesterday, Sunday. The "Krone" was there too.

The motives for volunteering are many and varied. Many people find a meaningful task in serving others. This year, more than 50 organizations and associations demonstrated just how fulfilling voluntary work can be in front of and in the St. Pölten Landhaus.

"Today is a day to say thank you. Because our volunteers help quickly and selflessly wherever help and support are needed," explained Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. Bishop Alois Schwarz, Caritas Director Hannes Ziselsberger and Provincial Councillors Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ), Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister (ÖVP) and Susanne Rosenkranz (FPÖ) also thanked the volunteers.

One of the attractive show acts was a sports session with "Krone bewegt" Philipp Jelinek. Another highlight was the thank you concert in honor of the flood helpers with "Wir4" and "Die Seer".

"The record attendance at this year's Lower Austria Volunteer Fair shows the unbroken interest in the wide range of voluntary work in Lower Austria," said a delighted Kultur.Region.Niederösterreich Managing Director and initiator Martin Lammerhuber.
