Cat duo rescued after accident with expensive surgery

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for cats to be hit by cars and simply left to fend for themselves at the side of the road. In St. Pölten, however, two drivers have now ensured the survival of two cats by acting quickly.

"Maggie" had a stroke of luck: the driver who hit the free-roaming cat contacted the St. Pölten animal shelter and had the velvet paw given immediate medical treatment. "Unfortunately, many drivers who accidentally hit or run over a cat often simply drive on and leave the injured animal to fend for itself," says animal welfare association chairman Thomas Kainz, praising the driver's behavior. This meant that the cat could be operated on in time.

Because nobody seems to miss her even weeks after the accident, "Maggie" is now waiting at the animal shelter for a new home where she can recover and start again.

"Flash" had a much worse fate. The red tomcat was also taken to the vet after a collision with a car. "Flash" suffered a traumatic brain injury and a broken palate and had to undergo emergency surgery. However, because he was unable to swallow on his own afterwards, a second operation was carried out to insert a gavage, through which he has been artificially fed ever since.

"The path back to a halfway normal cat life is still uncertain, but we are convinced that he has earned this chance," says vet Alexander Haselmeyer.

Because the operations for the two four-legged friends tore another hole in the animal welfare association's budget, it is asking for donations under the reference "Maggie" or "Flash" to AT20 2025 6000 0061 6193.
