Bosnian teenager kills policeman with knife

On Thursday evening, a teenager armed with a knife stormed a police station in Bosnia and stabbed two police officers. One officer did not survive the attack, his colleague was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. The public prosecutor's office is suspecting terrorism.

The bloody crime took place in the small town of Bosanska Krupa in the north-west of the country, close to the border with Croatia. The motives of the teenager, who was born in 2009, are still unclear. However, the incident has the characteristics of a terrorist offense, explained a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior in Sarajevo, citing the public prosecutor's office.

Perpetrator arrested a short time later
The minor was arrested immediately after his attack. The Interior Minister of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina (FBiH), Ramo Isak, announced an increased police presence on the streets of the town. FBiH is the Bosniak-Croat entity within the state of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The governor responsible, Nijaz Husic, told the media immediately after the incident: "People are upset. That's all I can say today." Chief prosecutor Merima Mesanovic explained in a press conference that the search was on for "instigators" and possible backers. "We don't know whether there are any extreme groups behind it," Mesanovic said.
