Hesse: Police shoot attacker (20) dead

Fatal shooting in the German state of Hesse: In the early hours of Thursday morning, a woman (20) pulled out a gun at Schwalmstadt police station and opened fire on officers. Police officers returned fire and the attacker succumbed to her injuries.

First aid measures were unable to save the young woman after the exchange of fire shortly after 6 a.m. She died on the way to hospital. She died in the ambulance on the way to hospital and an autopsy is to be carried out on Thursday.

The background to the incident is not yet known, the police merely said: "The investigation is ongoing!"
