Knife attack on the street: four seriously injured

Four people were seriously injured in a knife attack in the German state of Lower Saxony on Saturday. The 32-year-old suspect was arrested.

The attacker seriously injured three men and a 48-year-old woman with a knife on the side of the road in Vallstedt in the afternoon, a police spokesman said.

As reported by the "Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung", the victims were sweeping the sidewalk or were in their front gardens when they were attacked.

Arrested man has no previous convictions
According to the police, the background to the crime is still completely unclear. The 32-year-old suspected perpetrator from Peine was arrested on the spot by the officers without resistance. As the newspaper reported, citing the police, the man had not previously attracted attention and has no criminal record.

Severity of injuries unclear
The injured men are 18, 66 and 73 years old. The police spokesman was initially unable to say whether the life of one of the victims was in danger. Several ambulances and a helicopter were deployed to take all the injured to nearby hospitals.
