New expert opinion after knife attack on girlfriend

A 22-year-old woman was stabbed five times by her ex-boyfriend (25) in Ebelsberg (Upper Austria). She was able to flee into a house and survived the brutal attack - the suspect is in custody. Now a further expert opinion is to clarify whether the injuries were life-threatening.

In August, a "discussion" between a 25-year-old Serbian man and his girlfriend (22) ended in a bloody attack. The man - who had come to Linz from his home country - is said to have stabbed the woman five times with a kitchen knife. The Serbian woman, who was seriously injured, managed to escape in her car. She later dragged herself into a stairwell in Linz, where residents administered first aid.

Ex-boyfriend wanted to kill himself
The alleged perpetrator then inflicted injuries on himself with the knife with suicidal intent, as he later stated, before he was arrested by the Rapid Intervention Group. Both the victim and the alleged perpetrator were immediately taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery. A few days later, the Serbian was taken into custody, where he is still being held.

An expert opinion has now been commissioned. This is to clarify whether the injuries were potentially life-threatening.

Trial only when expert opinion ready
However, there will be no trial in the near future. The reason: "An expert opinion has been commissioned. This is to clarify whether the injuries the woman suffered were potentially life-threatening for her and whether consequential damage is to be expected", says Ulrike Breiteneder, spokesperson for the Linz public prosecutor's office, to the "Krone".
