Apprentice Sarah (16) has taken a liking to welding

Sarah (16) is currently completing an apprenticeship as a metalworker at voestalpine. Sarah from Seitenstetten is particularly fond of welding. That's why she feels that voestalpine Precision Strip in Böhlerwerk is the right place for her.

Filing, drilling, riveting, turning, milling, welding and heat treatment - the processes that Sarah learns during her training as a metalworker are as varied as the profession itself. In the second year of her apprenticeship, she is already getting a taste of a wide variety of departments, giving her a first-hand impression of where her career path will take her one day.

"Maybe an apprenticeship with a school-leaving certificate would be an option for me, and maybe I'll do a master's degree, but I'll think about that when the time comes. First I'll finish my apprenticeship," says the 16-year-old from Seitenstetten, whose grandfather has already taken her into his own workshop.

"My tasks as a metalworker include the production and assembly of individual parts, components and assemblies - by machine and by hand."

After poly, she started her apprenticeship at voestalpine Precision Strip. As a girl in a technical apprenticeship, she is still in the minority there, but more and more are choosing this path. The company's own apprentice academy provides the best basis for this.

"I particularly like the fact that the many joint activities strengthen our team enormously," says Sarah.

Around 150 young professionals are being trained at the voestalpine sites in Lower Austria. There are around 20 apprenticeships to choose from.
