Horror crash near Mariazell: driver (17) trapped

Four people injured, including a trapped 17-year-old car driver, as well as severely deformed vehicles - that is the result of a horror accident on the Seeberg near Mariazell on Monday morning.

The collision between the 17-year-old's car and a small truck occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on the B20. Despite the force of the collision, the 17-year-old's passenger and the two occupants of the van were able to leave the vehicle on their own. The young man at the wheel of the car was unable to do so.

Artificial deep sleep after complex rescue operation
While still in the vehicle, he received emergency medical treatment from the emergency services, and only then was it possible to proceed with the rescue. Hydraulic rescue equipment was used. After being freed from the car, the 17-year-old was immediately put into an artificial deep sleep due to his serious injuries.

He was flown to Wiener Neustadt University Hospital by the Christophorus 3 emergency helicopter. The other people involved in the accident escaped with minor injuries and were treated at Bruck Regional Hospital.

Numerous emergency services at the scene
The cause of the accident is still unclear. The Red Cross Bruck-Mürzzuschlag with two emergency ambulances, three ambulances and the command vehicle, the emergency helicopter, the Mariazell, Gollrad and Turnau volunteer fire departments and the police were deployed on a large scale.
