A major police operation was carried out at Salzburg Central Station on Wednesday afternoon. The building was evacuated for security reasons after an explosive device threat was sent by email. Train traffic came to a standstill. The all-clear was given at around 6.30 pm.

Salzburg Central Station was evacuated on Wednesday afternoon for security reasons. There had been an explosive device threat against the building. However, there is currently no acute danger, the police reassured the public in the afternoon. They asked the public to avoid the station. Explosives experts with dogs investigated the main station site.

No explosives found
The all-clear was given at around 6.30 pm. According to a police spokeswoman, the search of the area was negative.

Trains at a standstill, bus services disrupted
Hundreds of commuters were affected in Salzburg, thousands on more than 50 trains from all directions. Train services had to be suspended. Trains that would have gone to Salzburg were stopped at stations. It is likely to take the whole evening for train services to return to normal. Due to the large number of people on the station forecourt, bus services at the station were also disrupted during the evacuation.

There was already a bomb threat at Linz main station on Tuesday and one at Graz main station on Monday. In both cases, however, no explosive devices were found.
