Truck falls off the Grossglockner High Alpine Road

On Tuesday afternoon, a 37-year-old truck driver left the road on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road near Fusch and fell over a steep embankment. 

It is not yet clear exactly what caused the accident. What is certain, however, is that the driver was lucky: the 22-ton vehicle came to a halt in a wooded area.

The driver suffered injuries in the accident, but was able to free himself from the truck.

The rescue operation with heavy equipment from the fire department lasted into the night.

There was no environmental hazard posed by the loaded goods.

A breathalyzer test on the driver was negative.
