Water level rises

Storms filled Lake Neusiedl by 14 cm

Due to the heavy rainfall, the water level at Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland rose by 14 cm. The lake is still eight centimeters short of the long-term average at this time. 

At least the storms of the past few days have had a positive effect on Lake Neusiedl. Due to the heavy rainfall, the water level rose by around 14 centimetres and is now 115.32 meters above the Adriatic Sea.

Lakes filled
Tributaries, such as the Wulka, are also carrying more water. According to Christian Sailer, head of the main water management department at the state, the salt ponds have also been filled - and could remain so for a little longer due to the higher groundwater levels.

Eight centimetres missing
The lake is currently still eight centimetres short of the long-term average at this time of year. However, Sailer is confident that further rises will follow, at least until spring.
