PSG must pay Mbappe 55 million euros in arrears

French superstar Kylian Mbappé has prevailed in the multi-million euro dispute over salary payments from his former club Paris Saint-Germain. The top club must now pay 55 million euros in arrears.

The French league association has ordered PSG to pay Mbappé 55 million euros in arrears, which he had claimed as outstanding salary before his transfer to Real Madrid. This was reported by the sports newspaper "L'Équipe" and other French media on Thursday.

"Ethical bonus" for final months of contract
In its ruling, the legal commission of the league association (LFP) found that PSG had wrongly not paid his former striker salary components that were set out in a supplementary agreement to his employment contract. The millions demanded related to the outstanding monthly salaries for April, May and June, the last third of a bonus payment for Mbappé's former contract extension and an "ethical bonus" for the final months of his contract.

PSG had invoked a verbal agreement, which is why the club felt it did not have to pay the sum. Mbappé, on the other hand, did not consider the verbal agreement to have been fulfilled because his playing time had been drastically reduced following his transfer announcement to Madrid. The 2018 World Cup winner moved to Champions League winners Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer after seven years in the PSG shirt.
