Bad weather! After Work Market falls through

A cold front brings the first snow to Carinthia, but events are also canceled. Including the popular after-work market in Klagenfurt.

Mother Hulda has already shaken out the beds. Because in Upper Carinthia's mountains, such as Katschberg, it already started to snow on Thursday morning. Snow chains are compulsory there. The local fire department in Rennweg is already on alert. The bad weather spread to the whole of Carinthia in the course of the morning. A cold front and extreme precipitation are expected over the next few days.  

 Snow is not uncommon in September
"However, snow is not uncommon in September - especially not in the mountains," explain weather experts, referring to previous years. "There have always been snowfalls, often even in the valleys."

Several events canceled
Several events were canceled due to the weather. For example, the Strudelfest in Seeboden. However, local innkeepers are offering a substitute program and serving their desserts directly in the restaurant. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road has also been closed for safety reasons - probably until the weekend - as well as the Malta Hochalm Road and the Nockalm Road. 

Footpaths and cycle paths - especially near rivers - have also been closed due to the heavy rain in Carinthia. 

"Due to the numerous storm warnings, we have to take safety precautions and cancel the After Work Market," the city announced on Thursday morning. Although Klagenfurt has not yet been directly affected by the weather, it cannot be guaranteed that this will remain the case until tomorrow, Friday. However, the last event, which attracts thousands of visitors, will not be canceled. An alternative date is planned for September 20. "Provided the weather is right," it continues.
