Crash on vacation: mountaineer seriously injured

A fatal alpine accident on Friday in the Tyrolean Oberland: a Belgian vacationer (67) fell over steep, rocky terrain during a mountain tour and suffered serious injuries. The woman had to be rescued by helicopter rope.

The 67-year-old Belgian woman and a companion had undertaken a tour to the 3004-metre-high Furgler in Serfaus (Landeck district). It happened on the descent back into the valley.

Fall with fatal consequences
"Shortly after 2 p.m., the woman fell on the marked path without any outside influence and then fell around ten to 15 meters over steep, rocky terrain," reported the police.

Her companion immediately made an emergency call.

To hospital by helicopter
The holidaymaker suffered serious injuries. "Her companion immediately made an emergency call", the investigators continued. The woman was rescued by the crew of the Christophorus 5 emergency helicopter using a rope and flown to the hospital in Innsbruck.
