Raid: Around 140,000 euros in tax debts collected

"Do you need an invoice?" - This question was not even asked in two businesses on Carinthian lakes that were inspected by the financial police at the end of August as part of a targeted operation. In general, the majority of businesses in the catering and hotel industry did not present a glorious picture.

Violations of the cash register obligation, illegal employment, infringements of the Working Hours Act and illegal employment of foreigners - 76 out of 110 businesses inspected did not have a clean slate during a special campaign by the financial police at Carinthian lakes from August 20 to 29.

Commitment to "honest taxpayers"
"The financial police are working hard to combat illegal employment, tax fraud and breaches of tax regulations," emphasizes Finance Minister Magnus Brunner. "These measures are to the benefit of all honest taxpayers, strengthen the reputation of our business location and, in particular, support companies that play by the rules."

Almost 100 financial police officers traveled through Carinthia and inspected restaurants and hotels. In 50 cases, the officers came across violations in the employment sector - due to working hours and illegal employment. There were a further 26 offenders in the area of cash registers.

The businesses are now facing criminal proceedings under the Fiscal Offenses Act, and tax debts amounting to 142,573 euros were also collected. Two businesses that did not use a cash register at all had a particularly lax approach to the issue. All businesses caught are now facing heavy fines.
