Major police operation in Neumarkt am Wallersee

After a suspected assassin from Austria was killed by police officers outside the Nazi Documentation Center in Munich on Thursday, a large-scale operation is now underway in the Flachgau municipality of Neumarkt am Wallersee. According to "Krone" information, the police are said to have targeted the assassin's residence. 

According to "Krone" information, the Salzburg man who was killed probably lived in the lakeside community. In the meantime, Salzburg's state police director Bernhard Rausch also confirmed the large-scale operation to the "Krone". "There is no danger to the local population. Everything else is currently under investigation," explained Rausch.

18-year-old was banned from carrying weapons
So far, the suspect is known to be an 18-year-old from Flachgau with Bosnian roots, who was already reported to the police in February 2023. After making a dangerous threat against fellow pupils and causing bodily harm, the young man was also accused of participating in a terrorist organization.

It was suspected that he had become religiously radicalized, was active online and was interested in explosives and weapons. Following the conclusion of these investigations, the Salzburg public prosecutor's office dropped all charges in April 2023. The competent administrative authority confirmed a weapons ban against the then 17-year-old, which will remain in place until at least the beginning of 2028.

The large-scale ban has now been reduced to the immediate area of the residential building. Investigators are currently in the building. In addition to a large contingent of police, the fire department, Red Cross and an explosives squad are also on site.
