Transfer fixed! Blau-Weiß Linz sign defender

Silvan Wallner joined Bundesliga club Blau-Weiß Linz on Thursday from Swiss first division club FC Zürich. 

The 22-year-old central defender signed a contract valid until 2026 on the last day of the summer transfer window, which includes an option for a further year.

The Swiss-Austrian dual national has played eight competitive matches this season. He is currently on the road with the Swiss U21 team. For this reason, Wallner will not start training with the Linzers until the middle of next week.

Already on the list for some time
Linz have been looking at Wallner as a player for some time, explains sporting director Christoph Schößwendter: "He is a very interesting young player who, despite his young age, has already gained a lot of experience in a strong league and internationally."

The injury to Lukas Tursch has created a shortage in central defense, so Schößwendter is very pleased to have secured a promising player with development potential for the club in Silvan.

Soumaila Diabate arrives from Salzburg
Blau-Weiß also brought in Soumaila Diabate from Salzburg. The 19-year-old was most recently a cooperation player at FC Liefering and is on loan until the end of the season. The defensive midfielder moved to Salzburg from Guidars FC in his native Mali in January 2023 and has since played 32 second division games for Liefering.
