Robbery at the train station triggers a manhunt

A Syrian (15) and an Austrian (16) ambushed an 18-year-old at Klagenfurt main station on Tuesday evening and threatened him with a weapon. However, an alert search with a helicopter and several police patrols was quickly successful.

"An ÖBB security employee alerted the police when the two youths attempted to assault an 18-year-old from Klagenfurt on the grounds of Klagenfurt Central Station," said Markus Dexl from the Carinthia Provincial Police Directorate. The employee witnessed the incident on the surveillance camera. 

One of the perpetrators is said to have threatened the victim with a weapon that he had hidden in a bag. The duo then stole 90 euros and a fake belt from a luxury brand.

"Based on the description of the perpetrator and the information provided by the victim, the intervening officers were able to assume with a probability bordering on certainty that this was a 15-year-old Syrian national known to the police." The Syrian could be reached by telephone and voluntarily surrendered to a police patrol searching for him at around 6 pm. He was arrested.

A 16-year-old Austrian was identified as the second perpetrator. He was stopped and arrested by a police patrol at 6:25 p.m. during the manhunt.

No confession during questioning
"After initial questioning, the two suspects did not confess. They are still being questioned. The criminal investigation department of the Klagenfurt municipal police command has taken over the investigation," said the provincial police directorate. "Furthermore, no firearms were found on the suspects or in the immediate area where they fled." Once the investigation is complete, the two will be charged.
