A man in Poland is said to have held a woman (30) in a pigsty for more than five years, tortured her physically and psychologically and repeatedly raped her. A hospital raised the alarm due to numerous injuries. The victim had met her tormentor online in 2019.

The woman had been taken to hospital because of a dislocated shoulder, which is how her ordeal came to light. Older injuries quickly became visible and doctors were "shocked" by their extent. She then revealed her story of suffering in a conversation with a psychologist.

As the news channel "Polsat News" reported, the woman gave birth to a child in a hospital some time ago. It had been given up for adoption.

Man faces 25 years in prison
Access to water and hygiene products was also restricted. The authorities are reportedly investigating the man, who was remanded in custody on Sunday afternoon, for ill-treatment with particular cruelty. If convicted, the 35-year-old from the village of Gaiki near Glogow in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship could face up to 25 years in prison.

"I couldn't tell the doctors the truth, I was scared because he threatened me that it would get worse if I complained," the 30-year-old told a local news portal after her rescue.
