Four young sperm whales spotted near Italy’s coast

Four young sperm whales have surfaced between the Italian islands of Ischia and Ventotene in the Thyrrenian Sea. "The sighting of this group of young sperm whales is a positive sign for biodiversity in the Mediterranean," researchers are pleased to report.

They were spotted by researchers from the "Oceanomare Delphis" association. The marine biologists observed them from on board the "Jean Gab", an old sailing ship equipped with special hydrophones that can be used to record whale sounds.

These encounters show how important it is to protect marine areas like this, which are a safe habitat for many endangered marine species," say the researchers.
