Shots fired in Vienna: victim (37) narrowly missed

An ominous argument between a 37-year-old man and another man over allegedly unpaid wages escalated in Vienna-Penzing on Wednesday night: After punching the 37-year-old in the face, his opponent fled, turned around and fired shots in the direction of the man. The victim was only narrowly missed. 

"Neighbors and neighbors heard the shots and called the police," said spokesman Mattias Schuster. The suspect made off in the meantime.

Third person probably involved
When the police arrived at the scene, they came across the 37-year-old, who was probably only narrowly missed by the bullets. He told the officers that the meeting had been about allegedly unpaid wages on his part, but that he did not know the suspect. The police assume that the unknown man was sent to the meeting with the victim by a third person, as Schuster explained.

At least one shot fired
In any case, a cartridge case was found at the crime scene that could be attributed to a pistol. "At least one shot was fired", said Schuster. Investigators are now looking into whether video footage may exist from the area surrounding the crime scene. The State Office of Criminal Investigation is investigating the case for attempted murder.
