Australia sets heat records in winter

Although it is currently winter in Australia, heat records are being broken. The weather station in Yampi Sound measured 41.5 degrees on Monday afternoon (local time). This is the highest temperature ever recorded at this time of year.

In several other locations in the Western Australia region, the temperature also exceeded 40 degrees. The neighboring Northern Territory is also affected by the unusual heat. For the small town of Alice Springs, meteorologists predicted far too high temperatures of 37 degrees, which could be reached by the end of the week.

Air mass reaches east coast
Hot air masses are responsible for the records. This week, it will be driven inland to the east coast. This is expected to break winter records in the Australian states of New South Wales with the metropolis of Sydney and in Queensland.
