Shooting period for Mittersill wolf ends

Yesterday, the regulation for the so-called wolf in Mittersill expired without a cull. No one knows where the animal is.

The wolf had killed at least four sheep and two goats in Niedernsill at the beginning of July and two weeks later in Mittersill. Two calves were injured and several sheep are still missing.

Despite legal doubts as to whether the culling ordinance complies with applicable EU law, it was also issued for the wolf from the Oberpinzgau region.

According to the ordinance, the wolf could have been shot by hunters within a ten-kilometer radius in recent weeks.

The existing grazing area protection ordinance remains in place until November 15.
